As one of the Project’s development objectives, 1,762 headteachers and their deputies have received face-to-face training to upgrade their skills in leadership, management, and the use of digital tools.

This is the first group out of 3,700 headteachers to be trained and approved by the end of the Project. This skill enhancement focuses on pedagogical management, coaching of teaching staff, school administration, and governance.

The training also aims at building headteachers’ capacity in complaint management, performance monitoring and evaluation, management of gender-based violence, school safety, ethics in line with the whole-school approach, the environment, and climate change, etc.

In practical terms, discussions with the training staff focused on four points as follows:

  • sharing with participants the reform aimed at improving learning;
  • sharing with participants the training and approval system for headteachers;
  • familiarising participants with the training platform: mastering the digital tools and platforms used for distance learning;
  • simulating and discussing work-related activities developed in the training modules.

The four-day training course involved workshops in the ten regions of Cameroon, following a programme designed to meet users’ requirements and covering all the essential aspects of the Secondary Education and Skills Development Project platform.

After the workshops, participants are now able to use the Project platform independently and effectively. They are confident in their ability to fully exploit the tool’s functionalities to optimise their work.

They have also been provided with training materials and online resources to continue learning after the training session.

Finally, it is worth noting that practical and situational exercises were used to consolidate acquired knowledge and develop operational skills.

As expected, some participants were able to express their satisfaction at the end of the course.
